Tiramisu Brownie

Tiramisu Brownies: The Ultimate Chocolate-Coffee Indulgence

If you're a fan of chocolate and coffee, this dessert is your dream come true. Tiramisu Brownies combine the rich, fudgy texture of classic brownies with the creamy, espresso-infused flavour of traditional tiramisu. It’s an indulgent treat that brings the best of both worlds into one irresistible bite.

What Makes Tiramisu Brownies So Special?

  • Fudgy Brownie Base
The base is a moist, decadent chocolate brownie made with dark chocolate and cocoa powder for an intense flavour.
  • Espresso-Soaked Ladyfingers
Like in classic tiramisu, a layer of coffee-soaked ladyfingers adds bold espresso flavour and a sponge-like texture.
  • Creamy Mascarpone Layer
A rich, smooth mascarpone cream is layered on top which is made with mascarpone, heavy cream, sugar, and egg yolks, delivering that signature tiramisu taste. Adding malted milk powder to the cream makes for an extra flavour dimension
  • Cocoa Dusting Finish
A light dusting of cocoa powder completes the dessert, just like a traditional tiramisu.

What Do They Taste Like?

These brownies are a perfect balance: deep, intense chocolate flavor from the brownie base, with a creamy, slightly sweet mascarpone topping. The coffee enhances the chocolate and adds a hint of bitterness, keeping the whole dessert from being too sweet.

Baking time and oven temperature

Baking time and oven temperature may vary depending on the oven you are using.  All oven temperatures in my recipes are based on a conventional oven. If you bake with a fan assisted oven, turn down the temperature slightly as these ovens tend to become hotter than a conventional oven at that temperature setting. Ovens have the tendency to deviate from the temperature you set the oven to. I would highly recommend using an oven thermometer to ensure the inside of your oven is at the right temperature.

An oven that is too hot may result in an overbaked or burnt bake, and an oven that is too cold may result in underbaked and soggy bakes. Having the thermometer will not only help in getting the right temperature but also helps in determining the right baking time.

Other factors that may affect baking time

The size of your baking dish may also highly affect your baking time. A wider pan means that the batter spreads out more, resulting in it baking faster than in a smaller pan where the batter is thicker in height.

Serve & Enjoy

These tiramisu brownies are best served chilled. Each bite is rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced — an elegant dessert for any occasion, from dinner parties to cozy nights in.

Tip: These also freeze well! Wrap individual squares and freeze for up to a month.

Ingredients

Brownie Layer:

  • 175g dark chocolate (min. 55%)
  • 120g butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 200g granulated sugar
  • 100g all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2g instant espresso powder
  • Optional: Extra chopped chocolate for topping
  • Vanilla extract or paste

Tiramisu Cream:

  • 75g sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 250g mascarpone
  • 200ml heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 30g malted milk powder (optional, e.g., Horlicks)
  • 25g sugar

Ladyfingers:

  • 200ml strong coffee
  • 25g sugar
  • 200g ladyfingers

Topping:

  • Cocoa powder

Instructions

Brownie Layer:

  1. Preheat your oven to 170°C and grease a square baking pan. Line with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Pour it over the chopped chocolate, let it sit for 1 minute, then stir until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the eggs, sugar, and vanilla until pale and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  4. Fold the chocolate-butter mixture into the egg mixture using a spatula.
  5. Add the flour, espresso powder, and salt. Fold gently until just combined — avoid overmixing.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smooth the top, and sprinkle with extra chocolate if desired.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes for a super fudgy texture. Let cool completely — preferably chill overnight in the fridge.

Tiramisu Layer:

  1. Mix the coffee, sugar, and optional malted milk powder in a shallow bowl. Dip each ladyfinger briefly (a few seconds) in the coffee and layer them over the cooled brownie.
  2. Over a double boiler (bain-marie), whisk the egg yolks and 75g sugar until pale and slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the mascarpone until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the cream, 25g sugar, and optional Horlicks powder until stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture to create a silky tiramisu cream.
  5. Spread the cream over the ladyfinger layer. Dust generously with cocoa powder.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours until set. Slice into squares to serve.
